November Update

The clocks have gone back and the weather is on the turn, but plans for next year and future conventions go on! We hope you enjoy our latest update.

Thabiti Anyabwile

2014 Convention

An old friend returns

As announced last month, we're delighted to welcome Thabiti back for our 2014 Convention. Thabiti was last with us in 2008 and serves as Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of Grand Cayman. He is a native of Lexington, North Carolina (U.S.) and is the happy husband of Kristie and the adoring father of two daughters, Afiya and Eden, and one son, Titus.

From Mecca to Calvery

In a new addition to our newsletter, we'll be looking back at various recent evenings over the year at the Bangor Worldwide Missionary Convention.

First up, we look at Thabiti who visited us in 2008! Thabiti led a powerful and challenging series of morning Bible readings entitled ‘Matthew on Mission.’ Thabiti is the senior pastor at First Baptist Church in Grand Cayman. A renowned speaker and author, he is also a former Muslim. After his visit to Bangor, Thabiti said:

The Olympic theme played out in Beijing, ‘One World One Dream’ was similar to the theme for Worldwide 2008. The emphasis, however, was different – ‘One World One Hope’ proclaims the good news of Jesus Christ as the only hope for a lost world. At Worldwide 2008 I’ve been amazed, humbled and challenged by stories of changed lives through Jesus Christ.

Don't forget, you can find about more about the 2008 Convention and all that happened over the course of that week, including audio, by visiting our website.

Prayer Update

New Initiatives for 2014

Give thanks for two separate approaches which have been made to the committee about new initiatives which we might want to include in our programme for 2014. One involves greater contact with young people and the other with local pastors / ministers. Both these groups are very important to us, so please pray that we will be given the wisdom necessary as we work through these proposals, to ensure the outcome which is in line with His will.

Better Support for Mission Agencies

This month we will be sending out a letter to the Mission Agencies with which we have contact ( over 70 in all ). The purpose of this is to explore ways in which we might better support the work of these bodies throughout the year. Please pray that this will be the beginning of a fruitful dialogue which will produce results and be an encouragement to all concerned.

Waterfront Hall

Please continue to pray concerning our plans to return to the Waterfront either in 2015 or 2016. At present, we are exploring the availability of possible speakers and need guidance as we work through this process to get to those who are God’s choice.

The Keenan Family

Please pray for the Keenan Family ( Alan spoke at this year’s convention ) who have just arrived in the Middle East with a view to working among Syrian refugees. They are grateful to have found a suitable apartment, and a local school for their oldest boy ( James ) and would appreciate prayer for the ongoing settling in period and for clarity about the specific work which they would be most suited for.
