February 2016

Plans are continuing to unfold to produce a fully packed programme for Worldwide 16. We do appreciate you signing up to this mailer and ask you to pray with us as we organise and prepare for the summer events.

George Verwer

Speaker Bio

George Verwer

George Verwer founded Operation Mobilisation (OM) almost 60 years ago and was International Director for 46 years.  Alongside his wife Drena, George is still involved in the movement full-time and continues to be the Director of the Special Projects Ministry.

George has been a regular at the Worldwide for over 40 years. The committee took a risk bringing him to speak when he was a young unknown and he has never forgotten that, always responding positively to our invitations. We look forward to seeing him and perhaps a glimpse of that infamous world map coat of his!

The Task Unfinished

Video

The Task Unfinished

A new version of the popular Frank Houghton hymn Facing a task unfinished was commissioned by OMF to celebrate their 150th anniversary in 2015 and played at our closing event at the Waterfront Hall. The additional chorus was written by Keith and Kristyn Getty, Fionan de Barra and Ed Cash and was arranged by Jonathan Rea and can be watched again on our Vimeo channel.

OMF are launching the song worldwide on 21st February in a global event they are calling The Task Unfinished praying that this will be a global movement towards completing the Church’s mission. Churches can get involved by incorporating the song in their worship on 21st February and taking the opportunity to feature mission in the service. For more info on the campaign and to download the sheet music, visit the OMF Website.

Points for Prayer

Publicity

We are at the stage in our planning for Convention 2016 when we engage with our designers and printers about our publicity material for the event. Please pray that we will be guided as we look at various options for the material we produce and also that we will use our website and social media outlets to maximum effect. Pray also that we will be able to reach new people with information about the Convention.

Youth Event

We have the second of our special youth events coming up later this month (26th February). Please pray for the organisers that they will be encouraged by the numbers who come along and, more importantly, by the response to the programme presented.

Meetings of Trustees and the Committee

Please pray that, as these important meetings take place on Monday 8th February, we will be inspired as we finalise the 2016 programme and excited by the new initiatives which we will be undertaking. More details of these will follow in next month’s mailer.

Praying for Africa

One of our main speakers this year is Conrad Mbewe from Zambia and he has produced a short video on how the pray for the continent of Africa. This is very helpful and can be accessed on our Vimeo site.
