Bangor Worldwide Missionary Convention

Nelun Fernando

We're pleased to hear from Nelun and give thanks that she is getting her strength back.

My dear family and friends,

This is to thank you all so much for the love, care and kindness shown to me through your prayers, gifts, cards, letters, and telephone calls during the past ten months of my illness. It was a difficult time, but I believe your prayers and support were used by God to help me go through it without it being too difficult. In many little tangible ways God showed me that he was taking care of me. This was a great source of strength to me.

I have now completed chemotherapy and radiation, and I am on a tablet a day which I have to take for five years. I have to do various tests and visit the doctor every two months for the first year and less frequently after that.

Having access to my brother-in-law who is a doctor and an oncologist friend in the USA was a great source of encouragement to me. Our children and their spouses were ever ready to help us sacrificially during the difficult days. With Ajith's new job, he was at home much more than before, and that too was a great joy to me.

I am now gradually getting back my strength (and my hair J).

Thanking you again and with much love,

Nelun

Prayer Points

  1. Please continue to pray about our publicity. In addition to the normal outlets of local churches and through mission agencies, our leaflets and/or posters are in  bookshops and the main railway stations in  Belfast and Bangor. We have over 100 DVDs  of our promotional video in circulation as well as on the website and we have just finalised our billboard sites for this year. Currently we are in negotiation with local newspapers in the Greater Belfast area to decide which offer the best value and coverage. Our aim is that many will become aware of the Convention, perhaps for the first time, and make a point of attending

  2. Please pray for our secretary as she finalises arrangements for speakers – their travel and accommodation arrangements, which churches they will speak at as well as their commitments at the Convention and so on.

  3. Please pray for the speakers in their preparations. May they get time to prepare and to discern God’s word for those who attend and may they also avoid last minute hitches which might prevent them from coming. In 2011, for understandable reasons, we “ lost “ several speakers just prior to the Convention starting and it caused some headaches in rescheduling and getting alternatives.

  4. Pray also for the Mission Workers Fellowship as they make arrangements for the Missions Exhibition and give thanks for a number of new enquiries for space.

  5. And finally, give thanks for a number of people who have offered themselves as volunteers to assist during the week. This is a real encouragement as there is always jobs to be done .
