Run the race, carry the flame.
By late August this year, the XXVIII Olympiad will be drawing to a close. Thousands will have flocked to Athens, the birthplace of the Olympics to watch the best athletes in the world compete for the glory of Olympic gold. There will be shouts of joy as victory is won; tears of frustration at an ill–timed injury; and looks of despondency by those who came so close, but failed to get a medal.
Of course, few of us will ever stand in an Olympic stadium and experience the emotions of competing in the 100m final but, as these athletes pack up to go home and the flame is extinguished for another 4 years, perhaps you will join us at Bangor Worldwide 2004 as we turn our attention to another far greater race in which each one of us have the opportunity to participate.
This year, the theme for the Bangor Worldwide Missionary Convention is an Olympic one – Run the Race … Carry the Flame – to focus our minds on how God is working throughout the world. Just as this year the Olympic torch has been carried from country to country by many individuals to herald the forthcoming games, God has called, and continues to call, individuals to go out into the world and carry His flame, proclaiming the good news of the gospel. This summer at Worldwide 2004 those attending will get the opportunity to be inspired by just a few of those who are tirelessly running the great race.So – check out the Programme for Worldwide 2004! There is something for everyone. Plan to come along and be encouraged by the reports from our speakers from around the world – and encourage them by being there to hear them. Come and give praise to the Lord for what He is doing and be prepared to be challenged to get involved, in some way, in worldwide mission!
