Work! One word that is unlikely to fill many of us with an overwhelming sense of joy or inspiration. In our daily lives we get up, grab some breakfast, dash off to our place of employment – perhaps running a little late – then spend the next 8 hours thinking about little else than the work we are involved in.
Come home in time to grab a another meal and spend a little time with our family or friends before heading to bed in preparation for doing it all again tomorrow! If we are fortunate, we actually enjoy the work we are involved in but, if not, it becomes a daily chore, focused solely on the pay–cheque presented at the end of each month. Not much wonder we struggle to find inspiration in ‘Work’.
This year, at Worldwide 2005, let us challenge you to lift your vision above ‘the daily round…the common task’ and rediscover the joy to be had in knowing that in every minute of every day that God is at work – worldwide.
This year’s Convention theme – God at Work – should both inspire and challenge us. I hope the theme challenges you to seek out where God is working – at home and overseas – and to ask Him how you can be a part of that work. We may not all be called to the mission field, but the great commission was issued to us all, and to it we must all respond.
Why not come along to this year’s Convention and get a taste of God at Work…across the world! There is a wide range of speakers and events. The Morning Bible Readings with John Woodside from Drogheda – ‘I am not ashamed of the gospel’. The Morning Prayer Meetings led by Johan & Anneke Companjen (Open Doors). Mission reports every evening from around the world. The Youth Event on Friday 2nd September. The Mission Bookstall. The Mission Resources Exhibition…and much more!
