Bishop Anthony Poggo
On Friday 19th May , CMSI is hosting an event in Belfast entitled Faith in South Sudan: The Church’s Response to Crisis. The special guest is Bishop Anthony Poggo, who until recently was Bishop of Kajo–Keji Diocese in South Sudan.
In recent months, both the Church of Ireland and PCI have issued ‘East Africa Appeals’ in support of the Disasters Emergency Committee, via Tearfund and Christian Aid. While this humanitarian support is an important part of the response from Ireland, it can sometimes pull the focus away from the significant role of the Church in South Sudan. The Church is one of the main sources of help, hope and healing for those whose lives have been devastated by conflict and famine. The event on 19th June, in Grosvenor Hall, Belfast, seeks to explore the crisis in a bit more depth, as well as shining a light on the response of the Church in South Sudan.
