Päivi Räsänen

Member of the Finnish Parliament

Päivi Räsänen is a Member of the Finnish Parliament serving her eighth term, a regional councilor for Tavastia Proper, and a city and church councilor in Riihimäki.

She has a long and diverse career in Finnish politics. Previously, she served as the chairperson of the Christian Democrats and as the Minister of the Interior. In addition to her political work, Räsänen holds a medical degree, which has provided her with expertise, particularly in social and healthcare policy issues. She has also published several books, where she reflects deeply on major questions of life and society, such as values, ethics, and faith.

Räsänen's family is an important source of support for her. She is married to Dr. Niilo Räsänen, a Doctor of Theology who works as the principal of Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Mission College. They have five children and 12 grandchildren. The balance of family life, work, and public duties, along with her strong convictions, has shaped Räsänen into a determined and courageous leader who stands by Christian values and freedom of speech, even when they provoke intense debate.
